金蛋的鵝：農夫的貪念與教訓

One crisp autumn morning, the farmer went out to the wooden coop to collect the morning eggs. In the corner nest, sitting upon the clean straw, was a large white goose they had recently purchased at the market.

As the farmer reached beneath the goose's feathers, his fingers touched something unusually heavy and cold. When he lifted it into the morning sunlight, his jaw dropped in utter astonishment—the egg was made of solid, gleaming yellow gold!

Thinking it was a trick, the farmer rubbed the egg against his sleeve and weighed it in his palm. It was real! He rushed into the cottage and showed the miraculous treasure to his wife, who gasped with pure delight.

The farmer took the golden egg to the town goldsmith, who weighed it carefully and handed him a heavy purse of silver coins. For the first time in their lives, the farmer and his wife could buy warm woolen coats, rich honey, and fresh roasted meats.

The very next morning, the farmer hurried to the coop with a racing heart. Wonder of wonders! The goose had laid another perfect egg of solid gold. Day after day, week after week, the marvelous bird produced one radiant golden egg every single morning.

Soon, the humble farmer became one of the wealthiest men in the province. He built a grand stone house, bought fine horses, and wore velvet robes. But as his wealth grew, a dangerous shadow began to creep into his heart: the dark poison of impatience and greed.

'Why must we wait for only one egg each day?' the farmer muttered to his wife over dinner. 'Inside that goose, there must be a vast mountain of pure gold! If we take it all at once, we could become richer than the king himself!'

Blinded by their greed, the farmer and his wife made a terrible mistake. They took a sharp kitchen knife and cut open the marvelous goose. But when they looked inside, they discovered to their horror that the bird was made of ordinary flesh and bones, exactly like any other goose in the village.

There was no treasure, no hidden gold, and the miraculous bird was dead forever. Overcome with grief and regret, the farmer and his wife collapsed onto the ground in tears. In their impatient thirst for sudden wealth, they had destroyed the precious blessing that had brought them abundance, leaving themselves with nothing but empty sorrow.
